African American Baptist Mission Collaboration (AABMC), Now NBCA Men on A Mission

Overview: The AABMC was formed in February 2010 and is a partnership of five Baptist communities representing more than 40,000 churches and more than 10 million Christians nationwide, most of whom are of African American heritage.

Benefits to NBCA Members: This initiative allowed for historically African American Baptist to Collaborate to raise $1,000,000 that was donated to Habitat for Humanity to begin providing both temporary and permanent housing for people in Haiti devastated by the Earthquake of 2010. This was an opportunity for our local churches to extend her witness to our brothers and sisters in Haiti. As a result of this collaboration, NBCA has developed an ongoing project called NBCA Men on a Mission. Men are traveling there each year for one week to focus on rebuilding Haiti. There is never less than 15 men involved in this program.

Vision: The Baptist World Alliance is a global movement of Baptists sharing a common confession of faith in Jesus Christ bonded together by God’s love to support, encourage and strengthen one another while proclaiming and living the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit before a lost and hurting world.

Benefits to NBCA Members: This partnership connect the local church with Baptist church all over the world. It enhances foreign mission opportunities for local congregations and exposes local churches to the work and challenges of other Baptists.

The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Benefits to NBCA Members: This partnership offers local churches an opportunity to take advantage of a proven mentoring program for young people. The provide delegate registration bags for our September Annual Session. The attend at least one of our annual meetings a year to provide motivation and training for church leaders.

Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS)

Overview: Chicago Theological Seminary is an affiliated seminary of the United Church of Christ. For over 160 years, CTS have educated future leaders for a multitude of ministries. Since our beginning, CTS has pushed at the growing boundaries of the church in order to make our faith relevant and transform our society towards greater justice. Our student body now represents more than 40 different faith traditions, perspectives and denominations.  With world-renowned teachers and alumni, CTS is the global leader in transformational religious studies that offer several Masters and Doctoral degrees, including Masters in Divinity, Sacred Theology and Religious Leadership.

Benefits to NBCA Members: Members of NBCA churches will have an opportunity to apply and be awarded scholarships for a Master of Arts, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry almost totally online. The scholarship recipients will be referred to as ‘The Wallace S. Hartsfield Scholars’ and will receive tuition discounts from 30% and in some cases, up to 80%. This allows the local congregation to promote theological education. It also provides an idea of receiving the CTS scholarship and then the local church may consider pay 50% of the balance and the other 50% of the Vance to be paid by the student. There may be other configurations of this financial arrangement that may be employed. 

Christian Churches Together

Overview: Christian Churches Together provides a context – marked by prayer, worship and fellowship—in which churches can develop relationships with other churches with whom they presently have little contact. This is one response to our Lord’s Prayer that all who believe in Him might be one with God and with one another so that the world would believe in Him as God and Savior.

CCT offers the possibility of face-to-face relationships with participants across denominational/Christian community lines or racial/ethnic divisions. As participants grow closer together in Christ, differences are better understood, and commonalities affirmed. In praying and studying the scripture together, spiritual resources are deepened, and prophetic voices strengthened. There are new possibilities for shared witness, new coalitions formed among churches on various issues. CCT, out of its commitment to grow closer together in Christ, offers a significant and credible voice in speaking to contemporary culture on issues of life, social justice and peace.

Benefits to NBCA Members: NBCA's membership with CCT allows our churches to join together across denominational lines to represent Christ in a unidentifiable manner. It provides NBCA to participate in Christian Unity on a national level which seeks to gather local congregations around. Race relation, the celebration of denominational diversity. The information NBCA receives is crucial in supporting local congregation's efforts in bring diverse communities together to promote the Love of Jesus Christ.
