Overview: The National Baptist Convention of America and Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Society, in partnership with the American Red Cross has formed a Disaster Services Network, wherein Lott Carey and NBCA will help vulnerable communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from large scale disasters. Our Home Mission Board is the coordinating node for this partnership.
Benefits to NBCA Members: The local church benefits in that disasters are not responded to by NBCA alone. Local churches will be asked to encourage members to secure training as they may be deployed to serve during disasters. This partnership also provides for some churches to become pre-certified to serve as American Red Cross Shelters during disasters. There are also other ongoing home safety initiatives like the distribution and installation of smoke detectors. Local churches may engage in these home safety initiatives to assist members of their congregations as well as the citizenry of their communities.
